MEET OLLY
Hi, my name is Olly and I'm a lifelong fishing tragic from Broome, Western Australia. I've been fishing in the area since I was young and have always been passionate about the sport. My earliest memories are of spending hours on end bait fishing with handlines from anywhere I could wet a line. I got my skipper's license at the age of 14.
In 2021, I qualified as a Coxswain and spent the entirety of 2022 as a fishing guide at Kuri Bay Sports Fishing with Peter Tucker, one of the longest-running fishing guides in the Kimberley. I've always been a bait fisherman and enjoy the thrill of not knowing what I might catch when I drop my line into the deep waters off the coast of Perth where I spent countless hours fishing with my dad.
Since moving back to my hometown of Broome, I've fallen in love with creek fishing. There's something special about chasing big Barramundi, Threadfin Salmon, and Mulloway in the shallow waters of the creeks, using lures to entice them to bite.
In 2022, I learnt a lot about chasing big Threadfin Salmon, also known as "Threadys", which are an incredible sport fish and are plentiful in Roebuck Bay with the average size being easily 90cm+. Even better is the bycatch of big Saltwater Barramundi, which can be targeted during the wet season when they start to congregate in certain spots in search of the flush of freshwater that the rainy season brings.
